Hello, I’m Lou — a mixed media artist with a deep love for hand-cut collage, textiles, and the joyful chaos of making with my hands.
There’s something magical about the snip of scissors through paper or fabric — that crisp sound that signals the beginning of something new. I build my visual language through cutting, layering, and arranging: a tactile form of storytelling where intuition leads the way. My work is inspired by memory, emotion, and imagination.
I’ve recently begun experimenting with combining painting and collage, and I’ve found a real joy in following where the brush wants to go — embracing the expressiveness and freedom of paint alongside constructed layers.
My process is playful and experimental, a space where imagination is allowed to run freely. I gather materials that spark curiosity — printed scraps, vintage textiles, bold colours, and unexpected textures — and piece them together into worlds that feel whimsical yet strangely familiar. Each work becomes a journey: a landscape of dreams, memories, and moments of visual escapism, often capturing a feeling from the past.
For me, art is about freedom — the freedom to explore, to make without rigid rules, and to let curiosity and colour take over. I rarely begin with a fixed plan; instead, I follow instinct and respond in the moment. There is comfort in not knowing exactly where a piece will end up — it’s often in that uncertainty that the work comes alive.
I believe in creating from the gut, trusting the eye, and celebrating the joy of making for its own sake. If the eye sees and the heart responds — that is enough.
